ACTIVITY-1A. Read a webpage & write

Read the link below and select the 3 aspects (out of 14) you find more interesting for you. http://seoulistic.com/living-in-korea/reasons-living-seoul-korea-awesome/ Write in your blog/flyer an entry (BLOG-ENTRY_001), stating why you chose them.

ACTIVITY-1A14 reasons why living in Seoul, Korea is Awesome! After reading the 14 reasons why living in Seoul, Korea is awesome, we ponder about what would be our town with these characteristics. Obviously, while all the reasons are interesting, we would like to focus on three of them: the public transportation, the delivery and the speed.

  • Firstly, in our country the public transportation is by far worse than the one described in Seoul. According to the text, it is the envy of the other commuters because it is very affordable. Moreover, this system is not just more convenient than ours but also safer. What else could any commuter ask for?

  • Secondly, the delivery culture they have. When you order food in Seoul, the restaurants provide it with plates and bowls that they will pick up later. As a result, you do not have to worry about either cleaning your dishes or throwing the garbage. Furthermore, the delivery, it is claimed, goes to places without addresses.

  • Thirdly, besides the delivery culture, as we have mentioned above, they have the speed culture. In other words, they do everything as fast as possible. In fact, waiting more than twenty minutes for a food delivery becomes an annoyance for them. In conclusion, taking into account all the advantages given by the author, Seoul seems to be a very good destination, worth a visit.

ACTIVITY-1D. Read a webpage & write BLOG- SEOUL and ME Write in your blog/flier a 12-line entry (BLOG-ENTRY_002), stating FIVE things you enjoyed about our hosts

What we really like most from the documentary is the philosophy they live their lives with, living the moment in a new city, surrounding by new people and with close targets, not planning the far future. The hosts spoke smiling and answered their questions in the same lovely motivated face as they were asked.

They highlighted and transmitted us the new concept of family, the one you create in the places you have been, either native or expats.

Regarding the hosts, in a new country creativity and imaginative skills seem to improve, probably as Tory claimed, could be because of the more time you have to do things you never could do in your usual country in which you are involved in a routine wheel. We like the idea to build a new project such the beer store or the blog, taking in advantage that such a craft could have been undeveloped in the Korean society.

On the one hand, it is shocking the contrast between how Erik and Hassan coming from Canada and the USA respectively, expressed the first days they spent in Korea being an expat, doing things by himself and being out of their routine. And, on the other hand, how Tiffany USA-born, she came to Seoul when she was a child and she lived the experience in a different light, only for being in her Mum’s country.

AND another 12-line entry (BLOG-ENTRY_003) with ... TWO things that surprised you from what Hassan said and other TWO from what Tory said.

hole

From Hassan what most surprised us was how he expressed the sensation he has, a “crazy feeling”, of the first day they opened the Beer Store and he could serve beer to costumers. Probably the job fits with his personality according to Erik who described him as a community- focused.

He talked about Seoul and being an expat with passion in his eyes and thanked for all what he is having by the choice to live there, which is quite surprisingly for us having into account that he is been in Seoul just for seven years. He underlines the change which Korea and Asia in general is suffering. However, lots of people can think; and how in the last years Seoul became a desirable city for living. He described himself as an addict expat and foreigner.

From Tory we could feel the process of adapting herself in a new place and style of live in such a short period, without her work, her friends… and finally feeling confident in it in the little community they are creating. She worked for the CBC finding out people’s stories. Under the motto that everybody has a story, she came out with the idea to create a blog with people around her. She showed us her outgoing and friendly nature to keep in contact and learn from their personal Korean stories.
