activity three - Bites of Culture

ACTIVITY-3A. Watch a 3-minute video and record your reaction to it

A singular Korean feature. Record in your blog/flyer an entry where you inform the audience about the content of the video and your reaction to it!

REPORT:

It is surprisingly and amazing watching how honest Korean citizens are. On that video the real challenge lies in leaving unattendedly his wallet on the floor 28 times on purpose to notice people reactions. It is incredible checking that all the times the wallet ends up on the floor, he gets it back right away. Everybody who is walking through the street and realized that he lost his wallet, gives him it back without thinking of keeping it at any moment.

Seoul is a crowded big city but in spite of this fact, there is not crime there. Korean citizens are truthful and legal, what makes that going alone on the street doesn’t disturb our safety the least. It is kind of luck to live in a country like that, where people can go for a walk, take the bus or the underground and also going out at night without being afraid of being stolen, not like Barcelona!

In most of the countries, especially in big cities, theft or other crimes (mug, vandalism…) are a frequent problem, so that crimes are at odds with a full life.

ACTIVITY-3C. Condense the notes & write

Write in your blog/flyer an TRIPLE entry on EACH CULTURAL theme from the three you worked above. One done by a differrent member of the team (the extra member reviews the work)

(BLOG-ENTRY_008_a-b-c), stating reasons why Korean life is surprising; comparing THREE surprising things which you would like to be transfered to our country.

ACTIV 3C.1 THEME ONE.

Arirang broadcasting channel: a window to the world.

First of all we explain you what is Arirang. It is an international English-language network based in Seoul, South Korea. It is available on a TV channel or Radio, those it is a public service agency.

The channel presents programmes (including cultural features, documentaries and language programs) designed to give viewers a contemporary, accurate look at Korea, Asia and the world. The network's name, "Arirang", is derived from the traditional Korean folk song of the same name.

A surprising thing for us was that the network is free-to-air in much of Europe (except Finland), North America, Australia … and Asia, but not in Korea.

There are several TV programmes for all ages. To mention three:

  • For example: “After school”, which is a Live Music Request show for K-Pop (Korean-pop) fans all around the world presented for teenagers. They could be a current equivalent for youngsters in Asia, and abroad! to British pop in Europe for our parents.

AFTER10 arirang playlist. Here a link for Episode130. Heated discussion with a strong impact! ‘After 10‘ covers major issues of Korean society, inviting specialists from a variety of fields. You can find more info here:

  • The ones which became more interesting for us was “4 Angles”, which each episode consists of mini-documentaries that bring the viewers closer to the people, social, cultural, economic, and political issues of Korea. Offering different perspectives on the events and issues of Korea.

you can find more info here:

In our opinion, it is a good chance to show the world the culture and traditions of a country. Moreover it is a modern uncovered advertising, what should increase not only the tourism, but also the Korean expat brands.
